Located in the southwest, the Midi-Pyrénées is one
of France's largest regions, extending from the wooded hills of
the Dordogne in the north, to the great river valleys of the center,
and the majestic Pyrénées mountains in the south.
Cathar castles and Catholic cathedrals stand as witness to centuries
of religious turmoil.
In addition to the inspiring architecture of its churches, cathedrals,
and abbeys, the Midi-Pyrénées invites us to explore
its beautiful natural scenery, winding mountain roads, charming
medieval villages, and to put to the test its well-deserved culinary
reputation for foie gras, cassoulet, cognac and armagnac.
The tour takes us through some of the great sites of Cathar history:
Albi, Minerve, Castres, the walled city of Carcassonne, among others.
We also visit the medieval villages of Cordes, Conques, and Najac,
the magnificent cathedral at Narbonne, and the "rose city" of Toulouse,
so named for the red stone of its buildings. Sunset in the city's
main square is a feast for the eyes.
Included in this tour:
